Atka is one of Europe’s leading seafood processors. The company has a state-of-the-art production and storage centre at Puurs (near Antwerp), Belgium. Atka currently processes some 8,000 tonnes of seafood per annum. In 2006 Atka became a subsidiary of Klaas Puul.
The company was founded in 1984 by Jean-Paul Dierckx and Lucien Vanwynsberghe. Since its formation, Atka sa/nv has steadily built up turnover to the current level of
35.300.000 € (2003). Production has grown from 3.800 tonnes/year in 1995 to an anticipated 8.000 tonnes in 2004.
Atka’s speciality is Asian & Latin American shrimps in all its forms – raw, cooked and peeled. More than 25 different types of frozen shrimp are sold to manufacturing, retail and distribution and foodservice sectors of the European food industry. With 50 employees, Atka has sales offices in Kehl (Germany), Orsay (France), Madrid (Spain) and Verona (Italy). The company also exports to the UK, Scandinavia, Spain, Eastern Europe, USA and the Benelux. In 1997, Atka has inaugurated its 8,000 m2 state-of-art production and storage centre in Belgium which boasts the latest in computer controlled production, liquid nitrogen deep freeze tunnels, and the highest standards of hygiene consistent with impeccable product quality and respect for the environment. The company is BRC and IFS certified.
